Importing Audio Book files into iTunes
You will need iTunes, your iPod, and the
Companion Audio .zip files.
You will import the mp3 files into the iPod
using iTunes. First, you will create a temporary playlist on
the iPod. Then you will copy the files from the CD into this
playlist. Next, you will sort the playlist into proper order
and createa new, permanent playlist. Finally, you will clean
up and delete the temporary playlist. Once you are done you
will have have the Classroom Companion in mp3 audio on your
iPod.
- Step 1: Create a temporary playlist on the iPod
- Start iTunes and connect your iPod t your
computer.
- Click on the iPod icon on the left panel in iTunes
and click on the new Playlist button, a new playlist
will be created. We will use this to temporarly hold
the files we import.
- Step 2: Copy files from the CDROM to the temporary
iPod playlist
- Next we will import the mp3 files from the CD-ROM
into the iPod playlist we created.
- Expand the .zip file of topic 1 audio using the
Stuffit Expander software.
- Select the 'topic 1 audio' folder and drag and
drop it on the temporary iPod playlist
- After you do this, iTunes will import the mp3
files into the playlist and the iPod. You can watch
its progress in the song information panel. Once
complete you will have all the files within the
temporary playlist.
- Step 3: Create the final playlist after sorting the
temporary playlist
- Next we will create our final playlist. We do this
by sorting our temporary playlist, selecting all the
items in it, and then choosing the 'New Playlist From
Selection' from the File menu. (note: this step is
necessary due to a bug in iTunes. Newly created
playlists do not seem to remember their sort order)
- Sort the temporary playlist by clicking on the
album column. In the Companion software, topic is
equal to an 'album'. Therefore, we want to have the
topics arranged in sequenial order.
- Click on an item in the playlist and select
Edit > Select All. All items in the playlist
will be highlighted.
- Next choose File > New Playlist From
Selection
- This will create a new playlist with the newly
sorted items. Name this playlist 'Topic 1'.
- Step 4: Delete the temporary playlist.
- The last step is to erase the temporary playlist
you used to import the files.
- Click to select the temporary playlist
- Select Edit > Clear to delete th
playlist.
- Step 5: Repeat these steps to import the next Topic
files.
To import additional topic files, download the needed
topic .zip file and repeat the steps outlined above.
Congratulations! You have successfully imported the
Classroom Companion audio mp3 files to iTunes and to your
iPod.
Using other MP3 Players
You can play the Companion audio files in any
mp3 device or software. You are not limited to the iPod.
This makes Companion files adaptable as the audio technology
changes.
If your device supports ID3 tags, you will see the book
and chapter information. Each book is grouped as if it were
an 'album'. Sort your player files.
The following list provides an idea of the range of
devices and software that can plaback the mp3 files:
- iTunes
- windows media player
- real audio player
- winamp software
- archos jukebox
- and many more (search google for "mp3 players" or

Because the Classroom Companion iPod audio files are
encoded as mp3 files, you can play them using any mp3
player.
